Kim Kardashian Harper’s Bazaar US March 2011

Kim Kardashian is red hot on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s March 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (February 22).

Here’s what the 30-year-old reality star, who also interviewed Elizabeth Taylor for the mag, had to share:

On having a head for business: “I would absolutely characterize myself as ambitious,” she says. She credits her late father, lawyer Robert Kardashian, with instilling a work ethic in her. “I put myself on a budget. My parents raised us saying that at 18, we’d be cut off,” she explains.

On filming her new show in NYC: “I worked out once. I gained like 10 pounds. All the papers were like, Kim’s pregnant! I ate the nuts on the street corner, the hot dogs, the street meat. It was not a joke.”

On filming her first music video with Kanye West: “I can carry a tune, yeah. I have a cute little voice. I talked to people in the business, and they said, ‘This is what we do for fun. You go to the movies, you go shopping, why don’t you try what we do?’” And with no less than West as a collaborator, Kim might yet be a hit. Has Kanye ever come courting? “We are good friends.”

Photographed by Terry Richardson for the March 2011 edition of US Harper's Bazaar, Kim Kardashian scores yet another magazine cover.

Not only is she in Cleopatra-inspired get-up, she gets to interview her idol, the original Cleopatra: the one and only Elizabeth Taylor.

Here is an excerpt from the interview.

KIM KARDASHIAN: You are my idol. But I'm six husbands and some big jewels behind. What should I do?

ELIZABETH TAYLOR: I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands. For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else. I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things. But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS. Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.

KK: For this story, we were inspired by Cleopatra. What's your advice on how to be a queen?

ET: I have never wanted to be a queen! Cleopatra was a role, and I am an actor, so it was fun to play one, but it's not real. The real Cleopatra had an incredibly complicated life, and she had to be very, very canny to survive as long as she did. For me, the most interesting thing about her was her passion. The things that are important to me—being a mother, a businesswoman, an activist—are all things that were borne out of great passion.
