Pakistani military spokesperson Major General Athar Abbas told media that the Hatf VIII or Ra'ad, missile's launch was conducted by the defense forces' Strategic Missile Group from an undisclosed location.
According to the official, the missile has a strike capability of 350 kilometers, and boasts of high maneuverability, pinpoint accuracy and stealth capabilities.
"[The] Ra'ad cruise missile, which can carry strategic and conventional weapons over a distance of 350 kilometers, has stealth capabilities, is a low flying, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability and pinpoint accuracy," he said.
Further it was revealed that Hatf-VIII was designed for launch from aerial platforms and its successful test-firing had enhanced Pakistan's strategic capabilities.
Mainly, the Pakistani missile arsenal is aimed at targets in neighboring India which is also its arch rival. New Delhi has been successful in developing cruise missiles and its armory includes among others, Agni and Prithvi missiles.
The nuclear armed neighbors fought three full-fledged wars over Kashmir which is aligned to the Indian union. However, Pakistan has all along staked its claim over Jammu & Kashmir.
Quite often, New Delhi has accused Islamabad of waging a low-intensity war against the Indian state and encouraging cross-border terrorism by pushing through militants. Pakistan on its part has dismissed the charges and has instead charged New Delhi with attempts to distract attention from the actual woes plaguing the region and its people.
