MUMBAI: Images of the man who brutally murdered and robbed a senior citizen on the Kamayani Express have been captured by CCTV cameras installed on the railway network. Nandki Siddiqui (65), the deceased, was travelling from Allahabad to Mumbai with her grandson, Mohammad Imran, for a wedding. She was killed between Thane and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) after all other passengers in the compartment had disembarked.
"Footage from CCTVs installed on platform 8 of Thane station shows a man, aged between 28-30 years, entering the ladies' compartment of the Kamayani Express on Saturday night," said senior inspector Dilip Gore. Nandki and Imran were travelling together in this compartment. "The man told Imran that it was illegal for him to travel in the ladies' coach and that he should move to the general compartment, else pay a fine. The footage shows Imran leaving the compartment," Gore said.
Nandki's body was discovered after the train reached LTT. "The footage from the CCTVs on platform 8, however, does not show the accused's face clearly. Only a silhouette can be made out. But our team is scanning footage from other platforms and the area near the foot over bridge. We are confident of obtaining clearer images," Gore said. Officials believe the accused got off the train at Ghatkopar or Vidyavihar.
"We will inspect the footage from both the stations. He must have stopped at a water faucet on the platform to wash bloodstains," an official said.
